In February 2023, I launched the binary forest to offer custom software development and consultancy services to organizations active in the field of science, nature and conservation.

Notable past experiences

  • Between 2022 and 2023, I worked for Bluesquare as a senior software developer on Iaso, a project aimed at improving the management of health data in low- and middle-income countries.
  • In 2011, I started providing freelance software development services as a secondary activity, in order to add more variety to my career. I continued to do so until 2022.
  • Between 2009 and 2022, I worked as a software developer for the INBO's Open Science Lab for Biodiversity and the Belgian Biodiversity Platform (at ULB, then Belspo). During this time, I contributed to a wide range of national and international scientific projects, focused on open source software and open data. I acted as a trainer for capacity-building activities in Africa on a regular basis and improved my GIS-related skills. I also learned that I thrive in collaborative and scientific environments.
  • I started my career in 2004 at Schmitz Digital Printing, where I worked as an IT octopus. I performed various tasks such as network management, hardware maintenance, website development, custom ERP software development, and helpdesk support. This position provided valuable lessons in efficiency, flexibility, and the challenges of working for a small company. Being the most technical person in the company, I had to solve problems on my own, and to communicate with non-technical people. In retrospect, I consider this as the perfect experience to transition from a student to a professional.
